They live in these massive developments designed for the also rans of the economic contest in the Northeast. 1-2000 square feet, cookie cutter architecture, zero tree cover. Walking outside on a summer afternoon is like being in an oven. Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets banner flopping listlessly in the faded remnants of sea breeze that somehow reach these places.
The real estate on the coast is spoken for and highly expensive. But beyond the beachfront houses, tourist attractions and shopping centers, on the vast expanses of unproductive fields and barely buildable swampland, these places are proliferating. Several counties on the Carolina coast are among the fastest growing in the country, and it's driven by places like these.

Correctly pronouncing “Shallotte” is the shibboleth signaling the born’n’raised vs yankee transplants.
Also, rate Little River vs Carolina Shores vs all those golf course homes in Conway? The Whispering Pines nudist resort vs the Deer Country Home trailer park?
