this is fucking insane. boomers really are sociopaths--still striving and buying bigger and bigger houses as the entire world collapses around them and no one younger than 45 can afford to buy anything. obviously totally unsustainable and late-empire shit

56 years of age would mean you were born in 1978 or 1979, which is getting toward the end of Generation X.

So in 1981, the median homebuyer was born in 1950. 44 years later, in 2025, the median homebuyer was born in 1978. The median birth year only advanced 17 years over a 44 year period.

regardless, what are you doing buying a new house at age 56 or older? you likely have no kids left in your house and are basically just buying a show-off house that you can fill with paintings of kids getting killed and molested like Tony Podesta's house. boomers should be gassed

i’m sure that’s part of it, but there are also a lot of 55+mos downsizing these days, which wasn’t a thing in 1981 for lots of reasons. also, you have to assume most of these oldmos are simultaneously vacating a residence, thus leaving the supply in the same position.

This housing market/country is evil. It’s not that there’s a problem it’s that everyone just shrugs. Like there’s other ways to look at things other than the laissez faire capitalism / lib government REGULATION dichotomy. Like don’t respond to problems with your gay “solutions.” Just make the stupid country suck less and things like this will sort themselves out imo.

only way the country can "suck less" is if the people don't suck, and that is not happening in the US.

Cons just want immigration to pause so we can work on the phenotypes. People get lost in the weeds arguing about things that are aside from this salient point imo. Also we just need to get rid of our fake democracy but keep the second amendment and let Scumbags remove POTUS if need be.

It's crazy that in my town it costs literally TRIPLE to buy a house compared to 5 years ago when you factor in interest rates.

So basically it went from like a police officer married to a teacher could probably buy a house if they were smart with money, to now you would probably struggle to buy on a big law associate salary.
