Not many games can be straight-up played in the living room and nothing gay or retarded happens. Just Racing and Engineering.
Top 3 are as you listed MGS/Xenogears/FF7. Only played Xenogears a few years ago and it's clearly a triumph. That whole era was special. Basically every top JRPG was solid, FF9/Chrono Cross/FFT, you name it. Even FF8 wasn't offensively bad. And it was only made in 2 years. I don't think they had time to check to see if it was good or not. |

Also the things the fans play up about it aren’t interesting. The story is supposed to be built around the squall/rinoa relationship but it’s not that interesting and they don’t even have more moments in the actual story than Cloud/Aerith/Tifa. Also Seifer should be a Cool badass rival but he ends up being a gay useless pos that does nothing the entire game.
They love the Laguna flashbacks. Ok who cares. What’s good about these?
The one thing they bitch about is the Orphanage Reveal. As if the characters seem like they all forgot about being in an Orphanage. There’s like no indication they forgot about it iirc. I guess they expect that they’d have constantly talked about the orphanage hitherto
Anyway just never trust Losers…. When it comes to anything Losery never assume the thing most people hate is somehow good. They constantly want there to be a diamond in the rough bc it suits their narrative about Themselves. |

they did the cutscenes, and the cool af first act, and the emphasis on having epic Summons, but the rest is shit. FF8 feels similar to FFX in several ways (the antecedent story of the main character's dad's party for one), but FFX actually got the job done imo. If you think you like FF8, just play FFX. |
