In the old days a lot of the store was component level electronics. They had a nice selection. Not as comprehensive as the Allied Radio catalog, but a lot.

I moved within range of a Fry's in 1989 when we went to Palo Alto. I think the original store might have been in Sunnyvale. Online killed them. I suppose the hobbyist community might have moved over to software also, but I really don't know.
