every part of the car is "sold" with the car. they don't include the fob because people would rather have it built into the price since most people don't use it.
this isn't a flaw. it's some dumb bitch that let her phone (i.e. keyfob) die and didn't have her other key. if anything the average tesla owner has more redundancy to avoid getting locked out. i'd have to lock my dead phone in the car and not have the credit card key.
you can't prevent dumb bitches from locking themselves out of their car. if it was bypassable it wouldn't be a lock, would it? |

It's hard to lock your key in the car with a normal car because you always lock it using the key fob which you have in your hand. It takes real effort to lock your keys in the car in a normal car (at least since key fobs became widespread in the 90s, it was easier before then). You'd have to proactively flip the manual lock on the door to "locked" first, then close it with your keys in the car.
2. Not really, since this happened, which would never happen in a normal car.
3. You put your baby in the car seat, close the door, then walk over and get in the driver's side, how else would you do it?
4. What if you're in a remote area with nobody around, you don't have anyone reachable to call. "Just bash in the window", is that the recommended solution? lol. |

With that being said, I have no idea how this woman managed to lock herself out outside of some kind of serious software error. I turned the auto lock feature off on my cars, but even then when I would leave my phone in the car it just wouldn’t lock. And if she had her phone with her it should have just automatically unlocked when she tried to open it.
The only thing I can think of is that she drove always from her home without a key or phone (the car will allow you to drive if someone else with a phone key is right next to it)and when she got out the car no longer detected the phone key nearby so it self-locked. |
