Date: March 3rd, 2025 12:27 AM Author: Vibrant National Security Agency Ratface very excited for conference tourney time but don't have much to say about the teams atm, however March is a good time to start considering the coaching carousel: UNC extended Hubert (lmao) so the IU job search will be the story of the spring/summer. I expect it will be as exciting as last year's UL/UK searches combined, and with good chances of a worse final result. They've already whiffed publicly on Brad Stevens and Dusty May, and past that there aren't many realistic options that the IU boosters would approve of. Chris Beard is the man for the job imo but who knows what will happen. UVA is the next biggest (unless maybe Villanova fires Neptune), and from what I hear from friends in Charlottesville the list rn is Ryan Odom/Shaka Smart/Richard Pitino. The friend also mentioned Mark Byington, but I don't really believe that the UVA athletic department is willing to get in a buyout bidding war with Vandy. |

I've been mostly watching SEC and Big East games this year with a very few big ten and b12 games thrown in. dont think ive seen any byu games though.
wake is a fugly team. i caught their game vs duke months ago and wanted to claw my own eyes out. they are utter garbage. the acc sucks this year outside of duke clemson louisville. ugh. |

understandably they are feeling the effects of losing ~half dozen players to the draft over the past two years
the single biggest issue is that their major portal pick up to play point guard (mahaney) ended up just sucking and not able to adapt to uconn's play. he was starting early in the season and played like ass, making a bunch of retarded turnovers and wasnt able to defend quick guards. by retarded turnovers i mean... in one game early in the season, he just stopped bringing the ball up before mid-court and got an 8 second violation for literally no reason. just wasn't paying attention. looked completely lost almost every time he was on the floor.
this led to diarra starting at point guard. he's just straight up not good enough to be a starting point guard at the level uconn wants to play at. has a tendency to dribble way too much, get stuck in weird places after dribbling too much, and chucking up hero shots when the shot clock is winding down.
karaban looked ok-ish at the very beginning of the season but then got a concussion in one of the early games and imo has never looked the same since. had a very mediocre season and imo his draft stock has dropped a lot. he was kinda playing a point-forward position in a few of the early games as hurley was trying to figure out the mahaney/diarra situation at point and did an ok job of it, but then completely fell off.
they've also had issues with their big men. samson johnson has definitely underperformed. trnsfer tarris reed jr has grown into the 5 position well but was injured for a good portion of the season
the only two starters that i think have really played as well as uconn starters should be playing imo are solo ball (which i think is a 180 AF name for a basketball player btw) and liam mcneeley. but you cant run a successful and consistent offense with just your 2 and 3 positions.
they also dont have much depth on their bench. other than reed, they are just underperforming as a group.
hurley is of course an enormous asshole but i appreciate the guy for his quirks and coaching ability. he's been spazzing out all season as his team consistently underperforms and loses close games. they've also been getting a really rough whistle, probably because the refs hate his fucking guts.
and THAT is what is wrong w uconn this year :) |

i would love to see pitino lead st. johns to a title this year. they fucking CANNOT SHOOT. but i LOVE watching them play defense. ive never been so excited to watch a full court press in my life.
