It's still one of my favorites ever. It's crazy how they had a hypnotic powerful vamp and then bookended it perfectly with the best intro and outro I've ever heard. They went so deep too with random samples of telenovellas and shit. They were so heady for a bunch of nigs lol. Funny thing is that there was 1 white guy in the band and he wrote all the songs 1488

There really are only a couple of truly good ones. It doesn't seem like the emphasis was really on great songwriting. Somehow though Varg managed to top them all. It's the lucid dreaminess that makes it interesting. One of the few that really holds up.

For some backstory my sister and I used to listen to this record all the time in high school and people thought we were crazy. Props to my baby sis for being cyberpunk enough to handle this high. We would put it on for people all the time and they just wouldn't get it.

The ambient vibe here is incredible but unfortunately it doesn't hit hard enough in the drums. Found myself feeling disappointed that it doesn't unlock the highest level of ADHD. Probably why I always preferred glitch imo. There's a whole other level of intensity it could have reached and the second half drags. Overall though a cool tune thanks for sharing. Also makes me long for Amon Tobin.

This is like folk pop with Americana influences, not straight bluegrass. And it's woefully cheesy and overly sentimental. They sound like they tour with Iron and Wine.

It's like the whole act is a ploy to tear at your heart strings all without delivering any top tier songwriting. Very much style over substance. It's bordering on inane. It's very feminine.

terrific instrumentalists and they do some tunes in a straight bluegrass way.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Mn_qQGaE5A

sometimes they do a folk tune in a bluegrass mode:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i4dvmKhuP8

most of the time they go for "progressive bluegrass" which is fine by me.

here is Thile doing some classic fiddle tunes.

I don't think it's any good and I think Billy Strings is overrated. There are simply too many notes and not enough musical meaning. This is like Steve Vai guitar wanking but on acoustic. Nothing they play is memorable. These are non-contributions imo.

Since you're accepting other genres, Gothenburg death metal.

I'm really not a fan of this genre at all, sorry. I'm not even a fan of Swedish metal of any kind and in fact in the past year as I reviewed it, I actually soured on it the deeper I looked. If I had to pick the GOAT (no pun intended), maybe Bathory. It seems like as a nation all their music talent went into pop music. I'm sorry if GDM is your favorite thing it's just not for me. I'm sorry, Lars.
