you go from being 1/100 to the BSD who runs an entire agency. for people who voluntarily go into politics despite having the acumen to maek it as a sales chad or something the prospect of having a 'legacy' is way more than job security like some cuck idealizes, and only way to have some grand legacy in the senate is to be there for 30 years and sponsor some generational legislation. and even then half the time it ends up being bullshit (e.g. mccain-feingold)

Some are old and ready to retire soon anyway. Some think they might lose their next election and don't want to go out as a loser. Some are sick of being a senator and want to pivot to something else (private sector, run for governor or something else, etc)
Being a Senator was more glamorous in the past when you had people crossing party lines to vote on this or that but now it's gay so people tire of it.
