I have a relatively average relationship with anime. I watched action shows like Macross when I was an actual child (so, the target demographic.) When I was a teenager, I got into some more acclimated stuff for a bit (like Bubblegum Crisis or Akira.) I lost interest when it became practically impossible to find anything that wasn't goonerslop or aimed at kids.

Every couple of years, I have a friend or acquaintance who tells me that a new show "is actually good" and "not full of fanservice." These are otherwise normal people, so I'll usually listen. The last one was Demon Slayer, and honestly, I couldn't get past the first episode. I reached the point where the main character pets his sister's head, resulting in her blushing and making a sound I can barely imagine coming from a real person.

The one before that was Made in Abyss, which "isn't what it looks like," but if you look at one poster, you'll know exactly why I didn't try watching it.

I honestly don't know if any of this stands out to anime fans. Do they not watch anything else? Do the people making these shows watch anything other than anime? It's bizarre.

I like most of Miyazaki's work and watch a lot of 80s and 90s anime.

I swear I didn't want to make another post about the topic

Discussion

But every time I think I'm out, they pull me back to the seventh layer. I see again and again that the discussion about children nudity gets stuck on the same shallows and people on both side get preogressively confused even about what point they were trying to argue, and since I'm tired to repeat the same things in every new post, here's the core of what I perceive are the issues:

Nudity and sexualization are not the same thing, and the difference is often in the eye of the beholder and the culture they grew up in. (I was talking about the nudity in the series to a friend and I swear they could not even recall there being nudity in the first place. That's how much most people where I live care about it.)

Illustrations aren't real people, and I have yet to hear a convincing argument for the difference between this case and the violence in videogames that couldn't be summed up with "Well, I'm ok with violence but not with this".

The author clearly enjoys drawing naked children, and probably structured the story in a way so that he could get many occasions to do so. This doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the story and how well these elements are integrated, (which they perfectly are, as I could and will argue to the end of time). You can say both that Tsukushi is a pervert and judge the story by its merits indipendently. If you can't make this distinction, tis only your limitation.

P.S. To those who like to argue with ad hominem, remember that showing you don't have a real argument makes your side look even worse than if you had just shut up in the first place.

May your journey be overflowing with curses and blessings.

At this point I think it's more productive for the mods to just link a pinned post every time people start pedo posting.

Specifically one with the different types of logical fallacies as well as a dictionary.
