If someone funds the $200k I can actually focus on replying, until then I'm rolling calls all afternoon.
Exec at one of the majors had a special closet literally filled to the brim with broken phones. He had a habit of going irate and smashing the receiver on the table or ripping the entire thing out of the wall and throwing it. His assistant would calmly come in a few seconds after to tidy up and get a replacement phone in. Assistant would toss the mangled phone in the closet with the rest of them.
There's much worse.

Harvey Weinstein usually had 2 assistants with him wherever he went. At least one had a stack of NDAs on hand and would hurriedly force anyone speaking with him to sign. Gave him rights to everything and disclaimed physical harm etc. Not that it was enforceable but that didn't matter to him. The worst shit you can think of he likely did.
Pro tip: avoid private yachts, especially around film markets - unless it's yours and you personally know everyone on board and have security.

Every industry has horrible people in it. That's not a reason not to pursue something you are passionate about.
Trite - but I really love film; there's nothing like a theater on the edge of their seats experiencing something, whether it's fear and horror, laughter and comedy and all in between. There are some really amazing people in the industry too, the most creative and kind folks who want to make impactful art and tell stories that mean something or that make people feel something. The industry is diseased, but so is society. Where money, perceived power and perceived fame collide, predatory people will gather.
I'm finally at a spot where I don't have to ask a 'gatekeeper' for access. I don't think I'll ever work for anyone else ever again because I don't have to. I can choose who I work with, and I have a good idea of who to avoid. After a few years, I should be able to mainly be doing my own films and working less with 3rd party producers. If I can ever fuck over one of the assholes who take advantage of people, I definitely will take joy in it and try to make sure they are blacklisted in the industry and prosecuted if I can.
Turns out, making movies can be a fucking hell of a ride. The personalities are ridiculous and if you don't take any of it seriously you can have a great time and sometimes make something that makes people go, oh fuck. It feels good to take something from a nascent idea, get it written down and grow it into a machine paying for 100's of people's careers. And then you have something tangible that you created out of nothing. And if it's good, it's valuable but can also mean something to the audiences that watch it. It could be that film that becomes the family tradition on whatever holiday - whatever - but you can create something that means something to someone. It's neat. And I get to travel around to some of my favourite cities each year catching up with friends and old work colleagues at the film festivals. Make a few new somethings out of nothings and try to carve out a good life for me and my family.
