He’s only 4 but speaks in complete sentences and can already read. It’s good but a bit strange to think he’s probably gong to be smarter than me. I wanted to enroll him in school a bit early but my husband was dead set against it.

you should do the opposite and wait an extra year to enroll him
this was me and that's what my parents did and it was one of the only cr decisions they ever made raising me

it ensures that he's more likely to hit puberty before the other boys (as well as development before puberty) and so he will be bigger and stronger and more socially dominant than them
if he's actually smart, the "teaching" he gets in "school" doesn't matter at all. he will already be smarter than his teachers before he even hits puberty. they're practically useless. he will learn everything effortlessly on his own, regardless of what happens at school
at the very least, absolutely *do not* start him in school a year early. for the same reasons listed above, this can be catastrophic for a boy's social development. you never, ever want to allow your son to be bullied or low social status under any circumstances

Some bullshit about being the same age as other boys, I decided not to fight him about it.

Perhaps not entirely but we’re not. He learned to read at pre-school and I’m trying to keep him engaged. I don’t want to go full helicopter parent though.

Aren’t you some alcoholic dweeb? Football has been shown to cause brain damage and other severe injuries.

I have a kid like this. He’s a math and english whiz who takes advanced classes and his teachers are always telling us how brilliant he is, which is both flattering and annoying considering he’s 12 and can’t make himself lunch or navigate his way more than half a mile from our house, things his 9-yo sister does with no problem. The earliest sign of his intelligence was that he had a 10-yo’s vocabulary by age 4.

My 4 year old knows the workings of a car and is just now attaching the accessories to his 4th engine rebuild.
I know better than to limit his mind by exposing him to the "written word" where he'll be trapped between clauses 7.6 and 9.2 for eternity.
There's meaning to the term "wordcel" and if you don't understand this then it's easy to see how your son is already smarter than you. Just keep him away from books if you want to preserve that edge.
