Need a new one and apparently LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, Frigidaire are all trash that breaks down quickly. But apparently Bosch, Kitchenaid, etc are *also* trash.

Refrigerators are poorly designed trash these days. It used to be that you would buy one refrigerator and it would last 20-30 years. Now they last about 5-8 years depending on how lucky you are. I have heard that the built in refrigerators may be a little better, but they may also be shit too, and then you're spending a ton for a specialty custom sized refrigerator, paying for the install, and you could still have lots of problems.

Those brands are fine you just have to buy a higher end model, which is justifiable since it should last you 15-20 years

I bought a Whirlpool fridge a while back, and it turns out they delivered it without refrigerant. I had at least five technicians come to check it; none of them caught it.

Right before I was about to get it replaced, the last guy finally figured it out. Ended up getting a new one anyway. They dragged it for 10 months.

By then I had already purchased a new one because my food was going bad. Shitty experience. I got a Samsung and it worked just fine.

this is hyperbole. if they really replaced everything they would have had to drain and refill the refrigerant as part of the process (like if they swapped the compressor). or if the entire sealed system can be swapped out at once, the new one would have had refrigerant in it already.

if you aren't a woman you can still buy a plain old maytag, GE or whatever white fridge with the top freezer and no features, but of course you are a faggot and want a split door with a water dispenser and a screen or some shit so yes, you will get a worse fridge than poor people because you are dumb

lmao shut the fuck up faggot and stop talking like you know me. i am filtering for fridges that have as few "features" as possible. definitely no water dispenser or smart features, but it's hard to avoid an icemaker (won't hook it up though).

a plain white fridge isn't going to cut it though. prior homeowners had custom cabinets built around what i have since learned are a commercial grade fridge and freezer. they are gigantic but also loud as fuck and using shitloads of power because commercial equipment is expected to be opened a ton and therefore has little insulation.

filling that huge space with something that looks reasonable is tough. Ended up buying two quad door 36 inch stainless fridges that will look ok side by side. They won't fully fill the space but I can just add a strip of wood between them rather than doing more substantial work on the cabinets. Way cheaper than the other options to fill that much room. I fully expect them to be shit and have problems in <5 years but at least there are two.

Our house had kitchen redone right before we bought it and I have cursed every built-in appliance many times. All Thermador/Bosch. The fridge, dishwasher, and gas range are particularly shitty and I complain IRL to anyone who will listen, and the oven is 50-75 degrees off. Generally they look nice, though!

And those are the appliances recommended as "high-end, built to last" these days. I thought about getting bosch fridges but they're more than double the cost of what I picked and will probably still be shit.

Bosch has moved a lot of their automotive part manufacturing to China (and it's now utterly unreliable for cars), but I think their appliances are still made either in the USA or in Europe.

FWIW, I have a USA-made Bosch dishwasher > 5 years old without problems.

yeah that's ideal but the only stuff they make like this is either very low end, or an expensive "luxury" fridge. i didnt see any decent looking midrange thing. it's either something sub 1k and plastic that would look ridiculous in a nice home, or at the *minimum* you are getting frigidaire professional column fridges at $3k each and i would have needed several. or you are buying commercial fridges, which is exactly what i'm getting rid of.

lolno, you want to only buy appliances from an actual store nearby and you want to make sure they have a good service department, if you get some german shit or something fancy if literally any part breaks you could be without your appliance for weeks or months, I knew some boomers who had a custom german built in microwave go out during the pandemic and they spent over two years waiting to get another one
