The league will support them owning the Vegas team because they are the world’s leading experts on mass marketing of Vegas attractions and events (and now experienced NBA owners), and it will be much easier to get a high price for an expansion team in the 4th largest media market in the country. Adelsons wanting legal gambling in Texas and using their phase of ownership in Dallas to support their lobbying efforts also makes sense, or more accurately stated is just the reality of the current moment. Linking all these things together as the reason the Luka trade happened is a dumb leap, but it does explain why they are so adamant and public about how detached they are as owners and why they would shrug and say “go ahead” when their room temp IQ GM told them he was going to make the trade. It’s also likely that they have LeBron on board to be a minority owner and face of ownership for the Vegas franchise, as he has openly talked about for years now, and that’s why he and Klutch were completely OK with this despite complaining every time the lakers front office ordered donuts for the last few years.
