She is 22 years "old."
She works the night shift.
She reads Dostoevsky on her breaks - not because someone assigned it but because she "likes it."
She used the word "eschatological" correctly in a sentence about the deli's expiration date policy.
I have credentials beyond her imagination. I know what "eschatological" means.
But, somehow, she used it better than I would have, and she did it while wearing a smock that says "HAPPY TO HELP," in a font I cannot identify and refuse to Google.
I asked her what she planned to do with her "life."
She casually said, "I don't know, probably law school, haha."
I felt something leave my body.
Tabitha later told me she's "a real asset to the team."
How dare they.
