they are all over the place. even living in manhattan i am told ~50% of the time by google maps that the bus is the fastest route to other places in manhattan.

Agree friend, MFH bus is much better than the horrid subway, taxi service (goodbye $50 and have a heart attack) or even A CAR when you'd otherwise have to get out of garage etc
A car is the best mode of transit in the city everytime. A CAR not insane taxis

the bus has always been nicer than subways retard.
95% of the busses that drive through Manhattan start and end there, compared to the subways that start and end in outer boroughs and fill up with all kinds of proles on their way in.
Busses also have drivers who will call the police, kick people off, etc. Subway conductors can’t do that.
Busses are superior in every way except speed, and they are the only option to go cross-town.

The subway goes everywhere except all the way to LGA. Of course, as an adult you just uber it.
Also we always had a car in NYC.

The calculus from NJ is different since we take the Path (when I lived in JC) or NJ Transit when I lived around Montclair (or just drive). My comment was for when I lived in Manhattan.

Like I said, we had a car in Manhattan. The garage was like $300/month. It was pretty much always subway or the car.

I lived Midtown West and on Central Park North. There's a cute little lot for Riverside Park which is free and always had parking. You could also go to Fort Tryon. Finding street parking isn't hard around Central Park West either, plus if you're getting groceries iirc Whole Foods used to validate. We used the car all the time. We also always had large dogs so having your own car was the way to go everywhere together if you couldn't walk it.

Yeah i get that. Sounds cr based on your locations. You were far far west and then far far north. No shade.
I'm downtown. I used to play the street parking sweeper game where you would move your car and repark or immediately. It's insane and completely untenable.
Anyway point remains that there's no way you were driving around mfh daily to different functions

I mean, far far north is like Inwood. Agreed on far far west.
For regular parking you get a garage. I had one in both of those places. You would have one downtown. But without a dog or some other driver (like kids) it is probably easier to just deal with ubers, subway and whatever else.
I used my car anywhere between 3-5 days a week. Driving involved going to my garage, picking up my car, going somewhere and then going back to that garage. I didn't really worry about ending up losing a parking spot. I especially did it frequently when I lived in midtown west because the best places to walk your dog were Central Park and Riverside and neither was a walkable distance but you could often find parking easily.

Interesting. Each of the garages I rented were valet so you just call ahead and it is at the front waiting for you. But downtown always seemed like a pretty bad place to live but if you work there I can see how it would make sense.

Rarely. But some places are way easier to get to via bus vs subway. Think I took it to IKEA a couple times. Was fine. People were nicer than subway.

The buses in MFH are really nice compared to the subways. No bums or piss. The only disadvantage is they are slower. I wish I had discovered the bus sooner - never took it the first 5 years I lived here.
I take the crosstown bus a lot (UWS<->UES) because there's no subway equivalent.
Almost every avenue has a bus too so if I'm walking along somewhere and see a bus coming my way I'll just hop on.

lived there for like five years
1. drove in that shithole like 8 times, four of which were passing through to get north of nyc and one of which was renting some faggot uhaul and moving out.
2. took amtrak there a bunch of times from philly where im from until people started laughing at me for wasting money taking the fucking amtrak in the ne corridor. then i started taking the jew bus which costs like 20 bucks.
3. used the subway all the time and walked all the time when i was there too its the only redeeming quality of that place other than 44 dollar braised meat sandwiches.

my boomer father takes the bus to Midtown every morning. He says that you have to have a net worth of at least 2 mil before they let you on the bus. It's all white collar professionals going to work. He says if homeless or vagrants try and get on the bus the bus driver won't let 'em on. The bus is extremely prestigious.
Also clean, safe, and prestigious is central park. Patrolled non-stop, clean af, no littering. For some reason it's only the SUBWAY that libs have ruined. Every New Yorker knows never to take the SUBWAY.
