lotta stuff with lobsters. let your kids hold live lobsters. kids will freak and have fun with that. Watch lobsters fight. and then of course, learn to eat and enjoy lobsters.
get experience of rocky beaches with cold water.
is it blueberry season? drive up and pick / eat fresh berries

Acadia is great for families. Traffic can be tough but the bus service is pretty useful and clean/safe.
There are whale watching boats going right out of downtown Portland.
Spend a day throwing rocks at hippies in downtown Portland.
There are a lot of breweries around there if you want to brewdad it.
I have 180 childhood memories of Franconia Falls over in NH.
Rent a pontoon boat and cruise around one of the many lakes. Swim and shit.

update brothers. we're flying to boston wed morning and renting a car to drive to portland. will stop in kennebunk for lobster roals.
on thursday, we are doing a lobster boat tour thing (~90 min). on friday, doing a whale watching boat (~3.5 hours)
on saturday, we'll go to this place https://www.palaceplayland.com/ my kids absolutely love the rides at this place in ocean city, md called jolly roger. this place has similar rides (some of them look pretty 180).
other than those activities, we'll just find random chill shit to do.
on sunday, we are going down to boston and staying near fanueil hall. will hang around sunday afternoon/evening into monday in boston and come home on monday.

trip is 180 so far. we did the lobster boat thing yesterday, which was really cool, and then a ghost tour at night. today, we did a whale watching boat (kind of a bust - we saw some porpoises and a huge sun fish but no whales - 3.5 hours), then a trolly tour that was about 2 hours that took us to a lighthouse.
going to old orchard beach tomorrow, which has rides and stuff, then maybe this wildlife preserve. canobie lake park came highly recommended, but i got outvoted on that. too much time.
sunday we're driving to boston, then monday we will do one of those duck tours, and i guess some other shit. we fly home monday evening.

trip was 180. the whale boat, as noted, kinda sucked, but that's the risk you take.
saturday, we went to old orchard beach and rode rides. got in the water for like 5 minutes and it was insanely cold.
sunday, we drove to boston and on the way stopped at a huge chinese restaurant called Kowloon for lunch. did a duck tour (which was actually pretty awesome), then went to the top of the prudential tower then italian for dinner.
yesterday, we did this optical illusion museum (i feel like every city has one of these), which the kids liked, then the paul revere house and then the boston tea party boat/museum, which was much better than i thought it would be. then we walked to boston common, then came home. flight was 1.5 hrs delayed because a bunch of air traffic controllers apparently called out or some shit.
definitely going back next year but will stay longer and go farther north and make our way down south. maybe bangor/acadia to portland to boston.
