Got hit on the driver's side by another car while parked. Didn't want to use insurance but got a quote for $4000

It doubled recently

Tbf it needed to, regardless of inflation. A good mechanic takes longer to develop than a competent physician, even at the same IQ level.

I would check the strut for no leaks and the control arm bushings for no obvious cracks and if OK then not change them. You can also just ask him to check for you, depending i guess.

I found a screw in my tire late yesterday afternoon.

Big pain in the ass to get it repaired timely. A huge number of shops aren't open weekends at all. Some that usually are open Saturdays were closed today because it's Labor Day weekend.

Killing time at a auto repair chain rn. They didn't have a bona fide appointment available so I'm waiting for them to squeeze me in. Could be hours.

I had already driven approximately 3k miles with it in there so I tend to agree with your assessment. This probably could have waited if it were up to me.

Trouble is my dad knew about the screw and I had plans to drive 250 miles today... He would have been absolutely furious with me had I driven that distance with the screw in it

Car repair costs are insane. Also you have to go to a stealership, because most rando mechanic shops will at best not be able to diagnose/fix it but more likely make things worse.

Some kind of engine leak which triggered the check engine light and performance was affected. It’s a Taurus and the placement of the engine is fucked up and badly designed like a German car for some dumb reason and getting to the leak required taking out the whole engine block first.

That was $3k at a garage.

Then

Part needed replacement for AC. And needed to replace the monitor / computer system. Those two jobs were dealer only because garage would just fuck it up and that cost another $3k.

I only owe $15k on the car and am intending to pay it off completely at the end of the year.

Don’t buy used cars it just doesn’t pay

Bought another car for my wife in January and she crashed three weeks later. I had to come out to the scene and explain to her that yes it was her fault and not the other drivers fault. That was ultimately an insurance job obviously but my insurance rate went up A LOT because of it.

You guys talk about Asian giifriends etc but let’s just say this ain’t the first time she crashed up a car.

One time a few years ago the night before vacation she backed her car out of our driveway and fucking HIT my parked car, damaging both. That was $4k and two cars out of service and an insurance job of course.

She knew I was gonna kill her when it happened so the first thing she said was that I had parked my car wrong originally which caused her to hit my car with her car. I literally had to walk around the house and back to keep from crazy yelling at her after she said that.

15 years, had a used audi i bought for like 5-6k from some birdshit, it immdiately had some prob with like the under carriage making noise, i took it to some beaner shop and he charged me $100 to take off this thing

when i self deported i had to get rid of it and no one wanted it, i sold it to this shady as furk ruskie looking dood who paid me like 2k in cash and insisted on lying on the contract so the price looked more to the DMV (there's some reason for doing that, i forget now, maybe insurance fraud?)

i recall back then i started paying like 250 a month for parking at my apt but i got tired of paying so i wld haev to move car arnd all the time in free parking, one time i parked under this big tree and these BIRDSHITS shat all over my car, the parking toycops saw it and ticketed me for some BS like i was too far from curb but really it was cause my car was covered with birdshit for multiple days but they cldnt give me a ticket for having birdshit

i hate furking cars, in furking tongo i rented a car with no license and furking within 1-2h i hated driving arnd, its slavery, it sucks shit

a 5-6K audi sounds like its trouble - aren't Audis unreliable and expensive?

for that price you should have been looking at used Toyotas or something. selling it for $2K wasn't bad if it still ran and didn't have some major issue
