Sending kids off for the big college experience and pledging a sorority/fraternity and spending an extra hundred grand on their social lives is great if you have the money and need to maintain your own social status because that’s the tier you’re in, but for a middle class schlub like me, my kids aren’t going to do well in fraternities or sororities and would do better getting some work experience and doing CC then transferring. The other thing with CC credits is that you can transfer in as a junior after just one year pretty easily bc CC runs classes all the time. So you could do summer after hs, fall, spring, summer, and then transfer in like spring Semester as a junior and be ahead of your HS cohort. Then do 2-2.5 years at state uni and have that experience, then if you want grad school or a special program you could write an essay about how you took the path less traveled by doing community college first and working instead of blindly following the UMC herd to a couple years of mostly wasted time taking stupid gen ed classes and getting wasted. |
