Tyson in his prime was so goddamn good at slipping the jab. Vitali often uses his as a range-finder. He'll paw with it, leave it out there a bit too long and then trust his reflexes to lean away from his opponent's punches. That's a recipe for suicide against Tyson.

Tough call. Wlad is much more athletic, has a better defense, and punches harder. But Vitali is much tougher, has the far better chin, and has a mean streak that Wlad doesn't. Wlad's all sportsman. I've watched a number of fights were Vitali carried his opponent seemingly only to put more hurt on him. Prime for prime, I'd give a slight edge to Vitali.

This is true, but I don't think they've fought anyone as good or as fast as Tyson. Even if he never fought someone at their best, it's pretty clear that Tyson was a beat w/o peer and that wasn't the fault of the times.

Vitali fought Lennox Lewis and was winning on points when the fight was stopped because of a cut (which was correctly ruled a knockout for Lewis because the cut was caused by a punch). It's simply wrong to say that he never fought anyone as good as Tyson.

This boxing blog, with the use of stats, makes a compelling case for the Klitschkos. I have to agree. The elite heavyweights nowadays have a combination of speed and size that simply didn't exist in Tyson's prime. The big, heavy punchers in Tyson's day were also oafs in the ring. Median height and weight for heavyweights is now much higher and yet these guys can still box.
