I haven't, but I do like arthouse cinema in particulars
I don't like the sort of global 'arthouse cinema' monoculture that exists, but I can get a lot of entertainment out of unconventional and challenging movies (Herzog, Koyaanisqaatsi , various documentaries)
What's the best entry point for him?

that sounds fantastic
too much arthouse stuff is sterile and unpleasant
heartfelt emotional stuff that still has very high artistic quality and is willing to go places commercial audiences might not dig sounds good
