Sometimes being a high-powered, Big City lawyer has its perks boys.
My wife is from this slow-paced, small town near the Big City. She moved here to pursue a career in graphic design but of course it turned out to just be a MS. degree once she got a taste of the luxury and comfort. She still flirts with being an "artist", but over time she's realized that it's best to take a good thing that's in front of you even if it isn't exactly what she envisioned. I mean, she still gets peeved when I have to take a phone call at dinner, even though I've scolded her many times that it's what I have to do to provide the life *she* wants!
One such situation happened a couple months ago. I proposed to her at The Best Restaurant in the Big City. Of course, she deserves it, and frankly so do I. She had always told me she wanted to get married at a sentimental restaurant in her hometown but the best wine they had was Yellow Tail so that's a non-stater lol. It's my proposal too. After said yes I had to rush away to take an important phone call from my Most Important Client: The Big Bank. I have been trying become their Number One Attorney for a while, and as fortune would have it, they just hired me to foreclose on a property in her Small Town! So, I told her we'd be able to spend the holidays there, something she's been wanting for some time. But, of course, I'm just far too busy and important plus the food and cheer in The Big City are *way* more luxurious than anything her Small Town offers.
Anyway, I started digging into the matter and it turns out that the property is owned by her fucking loser high school boyfriend! It's some stupid Christmas tree farm which apparently has a lot of "sentimental value", and it seems like he's hoping for some Christmas Miracle to happen because that value isn't paying off his past due balance. Especially not with Big Megacorp Forestry is eager to purchase the land and harvest Small Town's Christmas trees. The local hayseeds even think they have magical powers. The Loser Ex BF wants to continues his family's longstanding sustainable forestry. But with Big Bank and Big Megacorp on the other side what chance does he stand? Especially when I'm ready to do whatever it takes, ethical or not, to win.
Heh, I guess her Ex thinks the chiseled frame from years of harvesting trees and his collection of flannel shirts matters. I can't wait to AMOG this fucking loser, embarrass him in front of my fiancé, and prove to him and the whole town that you can't fight money, power, and progress with sentimental holiday good cheer and Small Town values!

i foresee you becoming haughtily annoyed with your fiancée during her family’s christmas eve dinner while her adorable and sagacious grandmother (june squibb, perhaps) looks on with growing concern, before eventually sharing with her granddaughter in private a story about how she came to be married to her saint of a grandfather, a man sharing a surprising amount of traits with your fiancée’s ex.
also, for some preposterous reason somehow tied to the town’s folksy charm, the dispositive hearing will be held on christmas day.
