Context is irrelevant. What is most important though is that you have a metal wall with a little circular hoop attached to it, like a little basketball hoop the size of a wedding ring, turned sideways. The rope goes through there. On one end of the rope is a hoop that goes around the dogs neck before he knows where he is. On the other end is your hand. With one good yank the dog's head is slammed against the side of the metal wall and it can't move an inch. Then your assistant ties its mouth shut and you can loosen up on the rope. Now the dog is defenseless. If it's a big stupid dog you can keep slamming its head into the wall until it settles down.

It's the dog's sudden inability to breathe that makes this effective, not the slamming part. I should have clarified. The metal is important because it's easy to clean and it flexes with impact, so a lot of the force gets absorbed. You would want to slam a dog's head up against a brick wall like this. If you imagine the dividers they use in office cubicles but made out of sheet metal, it's like that.

The only one I remember with any clarity was already dead when we got it (yuge liver). Ugly little things, and short legs make it harder to control. Hard to find veins too so if you have to kill one you're better off injecting the heart and waiting for the needle to stop twitching.

I cannot find pics of this setup anywhere online. All the vet examination tables show flat metal tables, and some are attached to the wall, but none are equipped to restrain an animal. How the fuck do people who work with high volumes of random dogs deal with the mean and nasty ones from the ghetto? Do they think Cujo just starts wagging his tail when he's taken to a strange environment and approached by strange people?

Also, do libs even know that dogs can be racist? The owners don't even have to try to make them that way. A stray dog someone adopts from the pound may be racist before you even adopt it. How would you know unless it was racist toward you? In general I would say if you're handling large volumes of urban dogs, it's best to be white.

I can't believe I've never discussed cat wrangling here. There are two types of cats: chill ones that like you and the ones you have control. Some will swipe at you out of the cage when you walk by, they are that aggressive.

So here's one trick: the cage is lined with newspaper. You open the cage and this cat will back up and hiss. With your left hand you tug the newspaper, which causes the cat to freak out and turn around, exposing the scruff of the neck.

All cats that require control are held by the scruff of the neck, with legs pointed outward. Just stretch your arms out like heil hitler and it cannot scratch or bite or do anything to you. Many cats will start pissing at this stage, so you aim at the metal wall and just let it piss. Eventually it will run out of piss and needs to be tied up the same as the dogs. A cat can't do much damage with it's head and the right half of it's body pinned to a metal wall on a metal table. Can't get its claws into anything, so if it tries to fight back it ends up slipping and sliding like the three stooges. Eventually they get tired.

Man it was hard not to laugh at cats sometimes. Sometimes they were actually nice cats, but they were in a strange environment with other animals nearby and sometimes that was all it took to trigger them. There was a cat that actually lived at the facility and would be in the room while all this was going on. Milton. He had a series of shelves he could get to that went all the way up to the ceiling if things were nuts at floor level. You could gauge the level of chaos by how high up he would he would get. We only had one cat get away on my watch on one occasion (not my fault) and it was the only time I saw Milton get on the top shelf.

Housecats. In case it's not obvious a lot of euthanasia occurred at this place. The worst cases we saw were cats that were totally out of control and attacking people. We got one that was in a cardboard box with the flaps folded over, just a cat in a box, no way to look inside and see what you were dealing with until it was too late. That was the one that made Milton get on the top shelf. Another one came in tangled up in a net, the kind on a pole you might use for fishing. Someone had netted it and it had gotten itself all wrapped up in the cords. It came in all contorted, hanging off the end of this pole, and it was still a bitch to get it restrained. You only needed to inject them in the heart really, going for a vein is not absolutely necessary with smaller animals, but we usually tried to get a vein anyway unless it was one of those crazy cats. Sometimes we had to do whole litters of kittens, and with those you just go for the heart as well.

Nah we didn't even see fighting dogs. Plenty of guard dogs though, the ones that businesses use at night. If you have an auto shop in certain neighborhoods you better have a big ass fence with a locked gate and a couple of big dogs who roam free behind the gate at night. Pits aren't even good for that though. They don't get up and scare the shit out of you from across the street. They are only for fighting. A good guard dog knows who to look out for just by the way they move and other factors.

PS I was working in an animal hospital from age 14-17 when I did this. It doesn't matter how mean that doberman is, if it's needs its ears flushed or its anal glands expressed, the vet needs you to keep that part of the dog still for a few minutes. The vet hasn't been bit by a dog in 20 years, so if you get bit it's your own fucking fault. Cats can turn into absolute demons when they get back there, even though they are sweet and affectionate at home, but there are tricks you can play like the newspaper move I mentioned above. Giving the needle was 180, because every animal who got it needed it.

People who don't trim a dog's claws, jesus. If that claw gets long enough, the vet has no choice but to cut through the quick. Not only will your doggo not enjoy the sensation, they will bleed like stuck pigs unless you put some styptic on it right fast. Put a bandage full of vaseline on dem paws and send it back to the neglectful ass owner who didn't even bring it to the vet for that reason.

So if your dog had a painful experience with me, it was your fault. Every time.
