"What does it take to shake up an industry as competitive and innovation-driven as gaming? For Xbox, the answer seems to lie in a staggering commitment: an order of 50 million AMD chips for its next-generation console, the Xbox Magnus. This bold move signals more than just a hardware upgrade, it’s a declaration of intent to redefine the boundaries between consoles and gaming PCs. Imagine a device that caters to both the simplicity craved by console loyalists and the customization demanded by PC enthusiasts. With the Xbox Magnus, Microsoft is betting big on a future where gamers no longer have to choose between power and accessibility."

Long live Magnus.

"The hybrid model supports a Windows-based OS, multiple storefronts like Steam, and PC peripherals, aiming to attract PC gamers and console users alike."

So it's a Beelink mini-PC.

Microsoft will be offering customer support, warranty service, and that's it. Not flame that's all Intel, AMD and Nvidia care about: they do NOT want to keep the staff on hand to provide tech support or warranty repairs to end users, so they cut deals with companies they trust to do that.

That's why Intel NUCs are made by Asus now. Intel dun laid off all its folks who used to do customer support for those devices.

These have to be leftover Strix Halo chips AMD doesn't know what to do with. That platform is pure jank for anything but light gaming, and AMD has nothing else in the pipeline. They don't have a desktop platform that can support those chips, so they are only being sold in laptops and mini-PCs for now. It makes sense that they toss them into consoles and try to sell them to poors for $500

Yeah, the CPU will be gimped so AMD can use those chiplets in desktop/server CPUs, so in that sense it will be custom-designed. We already know what graphics architecture AMD is wedded to and we know its limitations.
