Yeah but there’s always a reprieve
I think film/tv is more fucked tbh. Have you seen how bad Netflix is now? It’s all cheap true crime docs about some obscure murder. Their stock is Ruined imo.

They blame COVID for the Film situation but it basically dates back to like the 2000s. Millennials didn’t “go to the movies” like it’s nbd. There had to be something to draw them in. LOTR, Star Wars, Batman, Transformers, you name it. Aside from COVID everyone blames 2010s capeshit somehow. It’s obvious it started earlier.
John Carter was a seminal Bomb that was like Disney anachronistically pretending it was the 90s. No one has ever seen it. That’s what happens when you try to just Make a Film. It was utterly foolish. AAA Films have Huge budgets and Teams and need immense grosses to make financial sense imho
90s Films — people would watch them just to do something. So many high af grosses on Films that no one talks or cares about atm. There is no analogue for these:
Ghost ~$505M
What Women Want ~$374M
Runaway Bride ~$310M
Dr. Dolittle ~$294M
The Nutty Professor ~$274M
Indecent Proposal ~$266M
Cliffhanger ~$255M
Enemy of the State ~$250M
There’s no analogue for these. Life was just different in the 00s. Millennials were either completely abandoned by society with literally no Ride possible, or focused on OCI. You couldn’t just be a Normal Guy and go to the movies. Every movie theater I’ve ever gone to irl has been like 25% full at most 90% of the time. The last full theater I was in watching a mainstream Film was for fucking Titanic. In the 70s you just drove around in your extremely big car and sometimes went to the movies. Some of this behavior continued into the 90s. To this day, Proles still drive around constantly btw.

The Box Office decline was clearly decelerated by two things:
1. COVID. There's a clear mark - the box office went up basically every year before COVID. Then people stopped going to the movies, and many of them never returned. Not adjusted for inflation, the movies is making about as much money as it made in 2001.
2. Marvel / Sequels. Hollywood changed their model to heavily promote everyone going to see the newest Marvel movie in theaters the same week. But that story ended (with the biggest movie of all time). With it, i think a big portion of the audience just decided they weren't going to start over again with Marvel. Same thing with Star Wars. The new Mandalorian movie is pretty good - but it's bombing because people had just seen enough Star Wars.
I think long term the movies are in a healthier place now as movies like Project Hail Mary, Obsession and Backrooms dominate the box office. You're creating a product where adults can go and do an adult activity that they enjoy because it makes them think and feel, rather than see Captain America 4 because everyone is just supposed to see Captain America 4.

The endless bombs are making devs more risk averse not less.
I think more of everything converges on mobile tier games. MSFT quietly makes a ton on these. More than from consoles with like 1% the cost.
For some reason gamers think devs are ruthlesss capitalists who “rush” everything. But the games take like 7 years. That’s not “rushing.” Thats just devs being bad at making games. The publishers actually have a lot of patience and risk tolerance. Imho the industry attracts slackers who suck at doing things.

Human creativity has been hollowed out by global homogenization
Thank god I don't have more than a few decades left. There are enough novels and short stories and other literature to keep me occupied for the rest of my life
