what are you looking for? if you want party neighborhoods, east village, lower east side or williamsburg. maybe nolita, soho or west village if you can afford it.

if you're value oriented and want something more low key but not suburban feeling, consider brooklyn.

gramercy and murray hill are fairly different in character. gramercy is very couple-y and shrewy. murray hill is fratty and b&t. gramercy also costs way way more than murray hill.

if you want attractive women, go for the west village.

if you're 30 or older and are considering living in murray hill you need to reevaluate your life, brother. stay below 14th street or above 70th if you're opting for UWS/Harlem (forget UES; it's awful). trust me on this. i've been in nyc for 10 years now.

FiDi itself has some crazy apt complexes but might be a little too much 23 year olds.

ok, here's what you need to understand. RSF is right. you want to be below 14th street. the scene may be a bit more trendy and arty or whatever than murray hill, but that's what attractive girls are into. if you want to hang around attractive girls, that's where you need to be, even if it's not exactly your cup of tea.

Murray Hill is TTT. You want to live below 14th street and above the FiDi, this is where pretty much everyone who goes out lives. You will never go much beyond 14th street while going out. Murray Hill is guido losers, midtown is boring nerds and all the way uptown is olds and people too poor to live downtown. Brooklyn is too much hassle if your friends are in MFH. I have friends who have moved to Brooklyn, I have visited them exactly 0 times.

A handful of bros with richman's burden moved there as well, like this idiot whose parents gave him their ~10mm apartment uptown when they moved out of the city. He let them sell it, then moved into some dump in Brooklyn to work on his band. SPOILER: His band sucks.

OK let me break this down for you: historically, South Brooklyn was the hoods south of downtown Brooklyn (Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Red Hook). Clinton Hill and Fort Greene are north/east of downtown.

And then there's the idea that Brooklyn is divided into williamsburg (which is like 5% of brooklyn) and "South Brooklyn." I mean there's a whole world beyond Williamsburg and Park Slope but still within the confines of Brooklyn, man.

sorry you're full of shit and didn't even realize what South Brooklyn is, you moron. nobody from brooklyn would call any of the neighborhoods you listed "South Brooklyn." they're in the southern part of Brooklyn, but it's not South Brooklyn

Tax advantages are huge, if you make good money. Not much cheaper than mfh though, which I find fucking outrageous. I can practically live on the Uws at those prices, WTF.

I really don't get the appeal of Hoboken when you have so many Manhattan and Brooklyn neighborhoods at the same price. It's like a college town.
