Texas has doubled in population in my lifetime. It hasn’t been good.

Texas is a bizarre place that has had explosive urban and suburban growth across its major Texas Triangle cities for the last 50 years. These places are all almost unrecognizable compared to what they were in 1975. In DFW, there were no southern suburbs, and the the northern suburbs stopped at Plano. Now the northern suburbs go out to Melissa and Prosper and Denton. Fort Worth has expanded west and Weatherford and Azle are now suburbs. It’s expanded south into Johnson County. Dallas has expanded south to Red Oak and Waxahachie. On the east side, the Dallas suburbs have stormed the Rock Wall and reach all the way to Greenville.
In Houston the northern suburbs extend past Willis. The sprawl does not stop until you hit the sea 100 miles to the southeast. From Mont Belvieu to the Brazos River.
The stretch from San Antonio to Austin and up to Kileen is almost one big mega city sprawl now too. I haven’t driven it, but it seems like there’s no end on 35. Something like 25 million people live in the Texas Triangle.
In these places the weather is bad, the cost of electricity is high, the cost of insurance is astronomical, the people are weird, the food is bad, the landscape is awful, the business climate is weird and cliquey. It is a truly awful subregion of the USA.

I struggle to see why Texans are so proud of the state of their state.
Houston is a sprawling mess that is now proudly the most diverse city in America.
Dallas has historically been viewed a a punitive place to work (“equities in Dallas!”).
The state comes with a huge hidden tax burden in the form of property taxes on overpriced cardboard-clad developer houses that require massive amounts of air conditioning.
The only redeeming factor of Texas today is that it votes consistently conservative, but their conservatives are these weird pro-police state neocons who think businesses can do nothing wrong.

Hidden taxes of living in Texas:
Your house will be too large for what you need so more electricity to run the A/C units
Lots of idiots get pools in Texas (the weather is almost never right for pools)
High insurance costs
Private schools cost a fortune
Need cars and have to drive everywhere (car depreciation, gas, insurance)
Property tax can be pretty high
Sales tax

Check out NYC burbs in either NY or NJ. $35k tax bills on million-dollar homes is completely normal. And that is on top of massive income taxes. Meanwhile, I have a home worth over $1.5 million in FL and pay like $17-18k/year.

Says the retard who thinks it can be "too hot" for the pool. I use mine from march through october. Some days on the tail end can be too cold, but bottom line is that there are 8-9 good months.

I probably have $60 in monthly costs for a 20k gallon pool. That includes electricity, muriatic acid to lower ph, topping off salt, and keeping CYA levels in check.
if i amortized the filter, swg chlorine generator, and pool robot over their useful lives, it might be slightly over $100, $150 at absolute max
i know dozens of people in texas with pools and not one of them uses a faggot "chiller"
