Also ended up being a pretty great fuck you money moment v the NFL and Roger Goddell. 2) 30 for 30 was fully his brainchild, other dude was like 27 at the time and didn’t have nearly the pull at ESPN that Simmons did, and he had to push for it and convince a bunch of dumb boomers to give him money to make it happen. 3) he was very early as the Gen X voice that took the piss out of dumb boomer sportswriters who thought they were smarter than everyone else because they worked for a newspaper. This paralleled the political blogosphere taking a huge shit on the traditional media in the Bush years, but Simmons was by far the most successful figure that managed to work out how to do it in sports.
