Before Jordan inured his knee on 2/7 going into the All Star break because of faggot Etan Thomas, he was averaging 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1-2 steals, and 25 points a night at the ripe old age of 38 going on 39 years old. And he was on the upswing: In MJ's last ten games up to the injury, he was doing 7 rebounds, 6 assists, a steal and 30(!) points a night. Those are wild stats considering his age and the terrible caliber of the team he was playing on.
After the injury, he averaged 4 boards, 5 assists, a steal and 16 points a game on drastically reduced minutes for the rest of the season; he somewhat came back from the injury through the off-season to play in 02-03 but he was never in the same form he'd been in prior to colliding with Thomas. From this analysis, we may draw a few conclusions:
1) Jordan clearly had gas in the tank for another championship run or two 98 - 01. The numbers he was putting up as a WIZARD pre-injury weren't that far off from what he produced during the second three-peat (6/4/2/30). Again, that's insane. I'm thinking he takes 2 of 3 in another three seasons of play with a rebuilt Bulls roster after deadweight Pippen is discarded. Jordan retires in 2001 with eight rings and less wanderlust.
2) If Jordan hadn't injured himself in February 02, the shitty Wizards were going to have a playoff run and Jordan may have been in contention for MVP especially considering the narrative. It would have been wild seeing Jordan at 39 going balls out in the playoffs again and lighting up e.g., Orlando or Detroit for 45 points on any given night.
3) Jerry Krause is a fucking faggot.
That is all.

I agree but 2 3-peats (6 in 8) is way more aesthetically pleasing than 3 and 4 (7 in 9).
3, 3, 6, and 8 are very harmonious. Augustine wrote at length about the perfection of the number 6.
3, 4, 7, and 9 are awkward, unbalanced, and ugly.

Pippen was clearly on his way out all season. But the rest of them strike me as willing to stick around if it meant another championship run or three. Jordan and Rodman would both likely have been willing to take a haircut on salary if it meant increased cap room to bring on someone to take the SF position with major impact like Antonio McDyess. Or maybe do something more drastic like bring in a star center like Rik Smits.
The frustrating thing about the Bulls at the end of the 98 run is they still had so much versatility. There were 50 different ways a GM who gave a damn could have freshened up the lineup while still retaining Jordan-Rodman at the core to stock them for another run. But Krause didn't give a damn and the culture had become toxic there by 98; it was a prematurely ended dynasty.

well being injury prone is part and parcel of being that age.
there’s no way he could have maintained those numbers even if he was “healthy,” especially not into the playoffs

jordan dickriders love to talk about stats until lebron enters the convo.
lebron is 38 and averaging 29 8 and 7.
Oh now you'll pivot to discussions about intangibles and "being a winner".
Well jordan didn't win fucking shit with the wizards. they finished sub-500 both seasons so fuck off.

If Jordan stayed the 99 Bulls coulda signed Vlade Divac and Charles Barkley and maybe win another title. Barkley took like 1.65 million per year to play in Houston that season.
Starting lineup:
Ron Harper
MJ
Kukoc
Barkley
Divac
with Brent Barry coming off the bench. Could maybe beat the Spurs idk.
