The hard Dem counties (Miami-Dade or Broward or both) held out as long as possible to try to eke it out for Hillary, but it became clear his lead was insurmountable and they gave up. Then during COVID Florida became a bastion of no-masking, schools open, business open, etc. So the GOP won a lot of loyalty there. DeSantis effectively marketed Florida as THE place to go to escape shitty blue states during COVID and BLM riots for Republicans. As a result, the state was absolutely flooded with people like my family - Republicans that used to live in blue states and finally had enough. COVID made it possible for many to relocate. While some libs also moved here, their whole thing is that they want to be able to riot without getting shot or run over, which Florida isn't a great place for. And for every new Democrat that moved here, one left. The whole state got way more expensive so it was a great time to cash out if you didn't like the new vibe.
Texas also got some of that, and even places like PA did too. I think a lot of the changes you'll see now involve some migratory shifts. For example, people moving from NY/NJ to PA as the best of the bad options in the area. The problem with WI/MI is that there are zero conservatives that are moving there because they want to escape libs. And places like CA/NJ/NY went from blue to dark blue. No more Republican governors or mayors or major cities in these places. Basically, the whole country is dividing up. |
