If I could do this for a year (or even a few months) and then quit, then yes. I should be able to afford housing within walking distance of wherever I work so that I can be assured that I never have to miss work, and afterward I can do whatever I want for the rest of my life. But if I have to do it until I die, then no. Money is pointless if I have to spend my whole life in an office or commuting.

If there is a 20-year commitment, then this is a "no" for me at this stage in my life. I can probably retire with a comfortable standard of living in about 10 years if I stay at my current bullshit WFH job. The extra 10 years of working (with no possibility of vacations or slacking off in the meantime) is not worth an extra $2 billion. Plus there is a risk of health issues that could force me to miss work (and hence take a bullet) as I get older. Now if you had offered me this deal at age 18, I would have taken it in a heartbeat.

NYC, Chicago, DC: still have shit weather no matter how much money you have.
Hawaii: would probably get boring, and it's a five hour flight from anywhere, so you can't really get away for a weekend.
LA: That's plenty of money for almost any house, a driver, a yacht, and memberships at top country clubs. Good weather, more outdoor activities than NYC, Chicago, and DC, and way more big city conveniences and entertainment options (concerts, pro sports, restaurants) than anywhere in HI. Plus, you'd be a short private flight away from everything west of Denver. HI is tempting, but LA probably wins out.
