Overnight, Cambodia had more white residents per capita than any Asian country could ever dream of.
Furthermore, all Cambodian "culture" had been erased by then, so whatever these white people were doing is what Cambodians started doing. They began dressing and acting like whites, doing drugs, listening to white music, all of it. That's why there's no culture shock when you go there today. People can read you. You're less "foreign" to them than a Vietnamese or Korean person. |
