Close the internet outside of the EU, Japan, South Korea, and Australia off from having social media (non-commercial content) contact with Americans the rise in extremism of all stripes is in no small part a reaction to normgroids getting domed by lazy chinese propaganda accounts pretending to be SJW-DSA and russian propaganda accounts pretending to be alt right |

They also provide essentially irrelevant non-voter "social weight" to positions not held by actual stakeholders in the US (i.e. US citizens). A lot of DEI type agitation actually came from Chinese and some Russian accounts and it skewed the discourse of those eras pretty readily. The alt right also benefited some from Russian skew on US social media but these ops weren't all that sophisticated back then. Now? They've mapped US political discourse pretty well and can be credibly seen as a legitimate propaganda danger It'd be acceptable and possibly of some common didactic use if their accounts were labeled as non-US as /pol/ on 4chan encourages but that's also pretty easy to get around in the tech environment of today |
