1. It's early in the season - Trump is ahead so this is in his favor. Even if Biden does well and gets a bounce like after the SOTU, Trump still has a few months for Biden to look inept again and reframe the narrative
2. No crowd - This is the biggest Trump disadvantage as he feeds off the crowd, but CNN would've found an audience that was 98% against Trump. I don't think this is a huge loss.
3. Mic cut off - I think this arguably helps Trump. His biggest negative in past debates is people thought he was rude. Plus, his constant interjecting let Biden off the hook a few times. Trump is better off just letting Biden speak for long interrupted periods and having Biden lose his train of thought |
