Lot of chatter right now in the postmortem about why libs didn't embrace Bernie Sanders, why it's too little too late, how they lost the working class. Krystal Ball losing her mind over neolibs screwing Bernie over.

But here's the problem. Libs can't raise taxes on themselves. The exit polls are clear: under 50k>Trump, over100k>Kamala. What are they going to do, raise the minimum wage and screw over their OWN STOCK PORTFOLIOS?

Shitcons can get away with populism because they don't have anything left to give. AND they're perpetually the victim of libs schemes, they get squeezed the most and are the most responsive to the precarious rise in costs. So how in God's name are the libs going to become the party of the people when left wing populism would mean taking from rich suburban folks whose kids already can afford to go to expensive liberal arts colleges and give to... poor white people whom they despise for having the "wrong" views???

How does this work libs??? It doesn't. Scoreboard, you're porked!

So say the libs back off social issues. Where do they go? Free college tuition for working class? A big tax increase to cover poor people going to state school? Is Elizabeth Warren the future? LJL libs. You have no moves on the board!

Politics will continue to just be a rotation between parties because Americans tire of the incumbent ruling party and bring the other party back into power. Something will go wrong over the next four years and Trump will be blamed for it fairly or unfairly. Then his heirs will have to either disavow him or lean in and get beaten like Kamala.

Brilliant take. Dems offer nothing new, wait around for people to tire of Trump. Great. Great plan. Might work but you're still pieces of shit.

Kamala and Biden ran on tax increases, so presumably the over 100k voters voting for them are ok with that. I am one of them. As the poster above said, the economy will fuck up or not deliver and the gop will get blamed (fairly or unfairly). A two point shift in PA, and even less than that in MI and WI and Dems win the presidency and likely the House. Just the see-saw of politics.

Correct you have absolutely nothing to offer the American people and you are just hoping for a Trump fuck up or a generational talent like Obama with a rockstar personality to come along and be the next face of the franchise. Got it. You have no answers. None.

lol, if anything since '08 it's been the GOP playing the defensive blaming dems for every societal issue strategy. Since then, Dems have enacted the most impactful package of domestic legislation since LBJ. What's the GOP proposed or done? A tax cut? lol

Nevermind, we will always have that federally funded footbridge in Arizona.

You didn't even say anything meaningful or make a concrete prediction. You said that the economy wouldn't be great and voters would tip two points back in the other direction? That is the softest prediction in bort history. It also hasn't even been long enough for any broad policy changes to take effect. Of course if this were 2028 you could say we've been stagnating but there's a reason we don't have national elections every single year. Yes these trends could continue into 2026 but it's way too early to tell. Nice try though.

you're op right? You argued dems can't run on increased taxes and that they've lost the working class. But neither has been true at all. You took a narrow victory (as the past 4 pres elections have been) and made it out to be some major 1968-style realignment.

Dems are doing really well with inner city urban minorities. Just incredible. Government workers too. Wealthy educated suburban enclaves. Yes we're seeing things tick back slightly against the incumbent party.

This is ultimately a disaster for the country long term. What's going to happen is it's looking like a Newsom presidency is very possible. The Dems aren't going to run on shit. They have no ideology. They simply serve the wealthy suburban enclaves at the national level while paying egregious lip service to urban minorities. It's such a shitty coalition with horrible values.

The only thing they will really do once in power, their main goal will be to go back to letting lots of illegals in and legitimizing the ones that are already here. That's the main thing they can do to ruin the country permanently and to finally win the demographic battle. This is the only way forward for Dems because if the country gets any whiter it will be the opposite effect, with decades of GOP rule. It's either going to snowball one way or the other and the key factor is immigration and citizenship. Dems aren't stupid if given the opportunity they will seal the fate of the nation so they can rule indefinitely. Republicans are dumb and will fail to stop libs from doing this. Nick take the wheel.

Right libs are back to selling the personalities. We've got great talent! Attractive people! Charisma!

You still have no winning issues. And 2024 showed a lot of people care about the issues especially when the economy is so lopsided which you have NO ANSWER FOR.

Now put the shoe on the other foot. Economy is amazing, Trump ended the wars, no dudes in women's sports, illegals deported and border secure.

Now what? What does Newsom run on? We are headed to a new golden age.

This OP is reaching a reasonably correct conclusion, but for the wrong reasons (which is also why OP is blind about the obvious truth of the seesaw point). The biggest swings against the Dems were in blue cities and states on the coasts. That didn’t happen because of a lack of policies that appeal to working class voters. It happened because the superultramegalib circle jerk that spits out brilliant big blue city policies like “hey let’s treat crazy homeless people and drug addicts like Hindu cows” and “if you were the victim of a property crime just suck it up and move on with your life” and “we will not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement uh hey wait stop sending all the illegals here we can’t handle it no fair.” The issue Dems have is that these cities are their brand. It’s what all voters assume libs like and want, and many libs in fact do like and want their cities to be governed this way. But for good reason the rest of the country is like uh ok well you can give free heroin to crazy violent criminals if you want, but don’t bring that shit here. And so these dogshit city governnments have super blue electorates who get to choose between a superultramegalib and a megalib, and if anyone merely centrist tries to run they get murked immediately with something like “ohmigerd did you know that Moderate Candidate donated to Mitt Romney in 2012!??” So blue cities are stuck being shitty until they go through like 15 years of fiscal collapse and we may very well need Consuela’s cannibal rape gangs to do the needful after all.

I don't think we're disagreeing. Everything you said is true. Blue city people wear their politics on their sleeve. They believe in EVERY kooky liberal shibboleth. And this was a police, roads, and firefighters election. Majority of voters said, "this sucks, I'm not buying it."

That being said assuming the left can't run on social issues to win over the center/independents/swing voters, they can't really run on economic populism either. They're in a tight spot. There's no obvious move on the board. If they go too far left on economics it would backfire which is why Berniecucks are so cucked.

This is still true but now there's a schism between brown racialist urban commie libs and suburban white/Azn neolibs. The suburban enclave whites are Cuomo stans who love the status quo. The urbanites are radical socialists. This is a yuge schism on the left with far reaching consequences.

oooh a schism! There's only two parties and a lot of different interest groups and ideas out there. Judging by the elections on tuesday, including races in georgia and mississippi, the dem coalition is holding stronger than the GOP one for now. There's some obvious splits in the GOP coalition as well.
