Aging parents melancholy over how their middle-aged children turned out

Date: December 30th, 2025 9:02 AM Author: Thirsty Silver House Turdskin I saw some of this over the holiday break. Specifically, it was one woman talking about her adult sons. On the one hand, her first born son was always an athlete/cut-up in school. Constantly in trouble. Went to college and was in a frat and even took an extra semester to graduate. She thought he would continue being wild, but he got a job and worked hard, settled down, now has a wife, two kids, little house of their own. Her other son was supposed to be the disciplined angel. He did sports too, but it was Tae-kwon-do. Straight A student in high school. Went off to college, decided he was gay, decided he needed a masters degree, then a doctorate. Now he's like 38 years old and bouncing around from temporary teaching gig to temporary teaching gig with hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans. The whole being gay thing I guess is still a part of his persona, but he no longer fits into that cool group of young hot ass and so he's just a bit adrift. She was so disappointed. It was palpable. The love was palpable too, but you can just tell when a mother has finally and completely concluded that it's too late and there is no coming back. |
