You buy the house, do the job, accumulate the things, and everyone nods like it makes sense. But if you actually step back and look at it, none of it was ever real to begin with. It's all just a story we agreed to tell ourselves.
The weird part is that knowing it's fake doesn't free you. It just makes everything feel slightly hollow while you keep going through the motions anyway. |

Date: August 24th, 2026 1:26 PM Author: UhOh you have to accumulate enough money to be able to totally disassociate from it. that amount differs for everyone, but until you've got it you're a slave. even with money, life is still sps because you're going to die but all the societal pressures become optional and kind of amusing. it's called "fuck you" money for a reason. once you don't need anything from anyone else, you can say and do pretty much whatever you want.
problem is all the things you describe just pull you in further and further. you have to participate long and strong enough to stack but all the while keep one foot out the door. people have trouble with that kind of cognitive dissonance. |

Marx wrote about it in the context of factory workers, but the same logic applies to knowledge workers now. You spend 8 hours a day producing value you do not own, for a company that could replace you in weeks, and the compensation is a paycheck that gets immediately recycled into rent, student loans, and healthcare premiums. The thing that makes it feel fake is that the entire system depends on everyone pretending the job title and corner office matter when what you are really trading is years of your life for the privilege of staying housed.
What makes it worse is that the exit ramps are all rigged. You quit your job to start over and suddenly you have no healthcare, no 401k match, no stability. The system is not designed to let people opt out, it is designed to make opting out look like insanity. So you stay and play along and tell yourself you are building something while really you are just keeping the machine running. |

I touch on this in a later poast in the sense that people aren't even really creating value anymore, so much of the activity is simply cash extraction while decreasing value to the end user (while figuring out various schemes to keep them stuck despite a decrease in value delivered).
Opting out as much as possible is the only way forward for a man to feel sane. It doesn't mean you can't work with the machine, but you cannot truly operate within it IMO. |

Date: August 24th, 2026 2:31 PM Author: Richard Ames Huge amounts of jobs amount to coordinating information from point A to point B to more "efficiently" extract cash from processes without necessarily adding any value. It's just endless amounts of process work to squeeze a couple percentage points more of margin out of a product or service. As opposed to "building a better mousetrap" or growing margins through adding more value to the end customer.
The latter is more durable, but also much harder and requires some level of risk. So instead, many white collar professionals spend all of their time grinding out efficiencies. It's incredibly hollow and, increasingly, doesn't pay nearly enough to justify the work IMO.
Additionally, and related in an indirect way, is the amount of economic activity related to entertainment. Whether it's "content" creators or gambling apps or whatever. Just enormous amounts of time and energy put towards creating ever more ways to "entertain" people who have nothing better to do.
Just look at the top people on YouTube. It's all garbage like "I tried every item on the menu at 5 different fast food chains" and it has a cartoonish thumbnail of some dumb goy with his mouth open and overly bright colors.
Finally, and perhaps the least fully formed of my thoughts, is the strange status competitions that go on in white collar environments. Freaks who all make within the same compensation band "competing" with one another by going on obscure trips or blowing all their money on concerts or festivals or whatever. All to try and differentiate in any way that they can because they have no *real* differentiation whatsoever. |
