It's easier to become a fixed wing (airline) pilot with the training, even though civilian helicopter jobs are rare. It is a small branch with lots of applicants so there is a prestige feedback loop as well, in addition to the lay prestige of helicopter piloting.
I have no personal experience with aviation to speak of, so if Hegemon has a different perspective he probably has a better idea |
