In 1.5 minutes Mann gets more emotion out of 2 actors and a few exterior cutaways of Hong Kong than whoever won best director last year did in a 2 hour movie about human lizard. |

Thematically it's different than anything else he's done. Miami Vice is an arthouse film disguised as a traditional run and gun shoot em up movie. It's like a 2 hour digital Art Deco painting with a riveting plot and a brilliant soundtrack. It's fucking genius. Blackhat is underrated but its not as beautifully filmed as Vice, the soundtrack is worse and Helmsworth was miscast/poorly written.
On the other hand, I think Farrell crushed it. People didn't appreciate Miami Vice in its time because they compared it unfavorably with the show, but I like that it was darker and grittier |
