The hikes are high but not unprecedented. The 80s hikes were similarly abrupt and brought mortgage rates into the teens. (My parents had a 14% mortgage.) Of course, we weren’t a bunch of pussies then and you could actually build new houses to lower demand. Now, the supply of housing is fixed in the short term due to overregulation and materials and labor are so expensive new houses cost a fucking fortune.
Yes, Biden is fucked. But what will Trump do to lower inflation? Tax cuts aren’t going to help—they are actually inflationary. |

There's this weird notion on XOXO that somehow homeowners are thrilled when they realize that if they wanted to upgrade their house, they'd actually have to pay double to get a much shittier house.
Like yeah they're not as fucked as renters, but really everyone is much worse off save boomers who are downsizing - and even many of them actually have kids who are struggling in the market. |
