US Military is effectively gassed. China (Taiwan), Russia (Balkans and Scandinavia)-- our enemies would have a field day

In typical operational years, the US military consumes approximately 269,230 barrels of oil per day. This equates to nearly 100 million barrels of petroleum annually. To put this massive daily consumption into perspective, the US military's daily oil usage exceeds the entire daily petroleum consumption of industrialized nations such as Switzerland, Sweden, or Greece.

During peak combat operations, such as the height of the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, this figure surged. Under-reporting and the complex logistics of contracted fuel delivery in active conflict zones suggest that the true volume of daily oil consumption may have been significantly higher. The reliance on liquid petroleum means the military is highly vulnerable to global oil price shocks, spending billions of dollars extra for every incremental rise in the price of a barrel of crude oil.

Fact:

The operational demands of the individual military branches reveal where this fuel is predominantly spent:

The US Air Force: The single largest fuel consumer, burning over 2 billion gallons of aviation fuel (JP-8 and F-24) annually. A single B-52 Stratofortress heavy bomber consumes roughly 3,300 gallons of fuel per hour, while tactical fighter jets like the F-15 Eagle burn through approximately 1,500 gallons of fuel per hour during standard operations.

The US Navy: Consumes vast quantities of marine gas oil (F-76) and aviation fuel (JP-5). A standard Navy guided-missile destroyer consumes upwards of 1,000 gallons of fuel per hour when patrolling, while an aircraft carrier fleet requires immense logistical chains to stay supplied with tactical fuel.

The US Army: Relies heavily on tactical diesel fuel for armored vehicles like the M1 Abrams tank, which gets less than 1 mile per gallon (approximately 0.6 km per litre) of fuel and requires massive quantities of fuel just to idle.
