life update from that schizophrenic poster

37 years old, no schizophrenic episodes for almost five years now. still living with my parents. somewhat depressed but i've been worse. no social life. i bathe once or twice a month. fortunately i'm stable enough to have a WFH job. cannot handle a commute in my current state.
this stupid disease really fucks up your life. sure, i haven't had an episode for five years, but everyone who cares about me knows. and the stigma is real. too many people stopped talking to me for me to ignore the stigma. my doctor said i probably self-stigmatize, whatever. i went from "mostly normal guy about to get married" to "medicated schizophrenic who has mostly given up." i don't have any goals, nothing to really look forward to, not much joy in anything.
i should point out the good things. i quit chain smoking, vaping, gum, etc., all forms of nicotine for good earlier this year. got promoted at my underpaid WFH job. saved a lot of money (burned through a lot when i was psychotic and unemployed). haven't had a panic attack in nearly a year. i no longer have anxiety about leaving the house. |

i don't view much if any of it liberating right now. it's been more of the opposite: restricting, lowering standards, less activity, etc.
what do you mean by "there are no more explanations"? being stigmatized and ghosted by people you've known for years or over a decade is painful. at least most of my closest friends stuck with me despite the psychotic episodes. i don't see much freedom that comes from it. i'm dependent on pills to stay sane. my life is pretty ordinary and boring these days. |
