Absolution - incredible record 9/10 even though I prefer OOS more. Time is Running Out, Hysteria, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Sing for Absolution, Blackout, Stockholm Syndrome, Apocalypse Please. So many bangers. Black Holes and Revelations 10/10 record front to back. Only 1-2 weak songs mostly all bangers. Then the made The Resistance it's cheesy af I didn't care for it personally but admittedly there are some good songs on here. It just feels like the band changed so much and they started working with hip hop producers and shit. I began to not care about them after this. 2nd Law was not great but somehow significantly less bad that what would follow. Madness is still a keeper somehow. They had no label support from their indie label to promote their shit in the US. They first got famous in the US through Guitar Hero/Rock Band with Hysteria and Time is Running Out. And upon second glacne I see the thread title is like "90s-2010 alternative". But I read it as 1990-2000, and I think most people associate "alternative rock" with that decade. So loving Limp Bizkit and not really knowing Janes was just a huge tell that he came of age when he did, and 99% of the bands named above he would not really know, or would google in the moment. Nothing *wrong* with being whatever age you are. I would have to google 70s bands, or would write things like "Yeah I know one T. Rex song". But Janes Addiction is emblematic because they spearheaded the Gen-X "alternative" moment for a few years, not least through Lollapalooza drawing connecting points between shoegazers, greasy haired grungers, rappers, etc etc. Not to mention birthing other momentous things like Lilith Fair, assorted hippie festivals, re-booting Woodstock, etc. I wouldnt begrudge anyone hating Janes, even tho I like 3 of their albums a lot. But they must be confronted one way or another if youre writing about 90s alternative rock. So seeing them get only a slight nod and mention of their only radio song just told me that OP came of age much later. And tbf, old af people like me hated Limp Bizkit and Korn and such. I would say they're somehow both properly rated and overrated at the same time. They started off as a popular boy band that got really famous for looking cool and being from New York. They just didn't write a lot of great songs and were always more famous than their actual output.
