Date: June 13th, 2024 1:41 PM Author: zurich is stained i was at a similarly ranked biglaw firm (BAKER AND HOSTETLER) and several years before i joined, there was a trademark case involving dan akyroyd and a lawsuit over vodka in a skull-shaped bottle. the firm's "litigators" had zero trial experience, so they had to get a guy in my group to try the case. we labor doods try a lot of cases administratively, and the judges actually apply the rules of evidence.
so chances are these guys are shitting themselves nervous bc they don't know how to do this. |

what BH partner are you working with?
the MP of their LA office got bounced for apparently super bad sexual stuff with associates a few years back. i was there at the time. |

in their first direct the litigators led and led and once the examination got to important points our first chair started objecting and was sustained every single time. the litigator was visibly frustrated and upset but kept trying to lead. the judge was pissed off. eventually the litigators passed their witness.
our trial guy (who had been a national debate champ in high school and college) led on every question during his cross, of course. the opposing litigator stood up and said, "objection, leading, your honor, what's good for the goose is good for the gander."

anyway my reference to the guy's national titles was just to emphasize the massive difference between a trial lawyer and a litigator who's never done a trial. our guy had a Bill Burr kind of edge to him and when he attacked on leading he had a bit of a skeptical edge so that jurors sometimes laughed out loud. |
