I remember as a kid being in Kmart, and some employee would get on the PA to announce sales, etc. My mom used to embarrass the fuck out of me by having the front desk people at Kmart tell me to come to the front of the store over the PA system, every customer could hear it.
But now at Walmart, Target, etc you never hear this. Why is that?

1) fewer lost kids because by the time the kid is permitted ot wander they'll likely have a phone.
2) less assistance needed because people do their research online.
3) no need to "announce sales" when everyone also compares prices online first too.
