Date: November 18th, 2012 11:58 PM Author: Arousing French Twinkling Uncleanness it's a small fund so not going to say too much. he did top undergrad (harvard/yale/wharton/princeton), summa cum laude, 2 years at a top BB, 3 years at a megafund PE (think blackstone/kkr/tpg/silver lake), then HBS/Stanford, and got the job straight out. greenlight doesn't do formal on-campus recruiting, but they posted a job on the b-school job board his 2nd year. ended up being the only MBA hire. very smart dude, knows finance like the back of his hand. also an all-around nice guy.
he likes the culture, very laid-back for a fund. lot of access to einhorn himself, whom he worships. the guy is apparently a fucking genius. and of course, the money is sweet. |

I think a lot were like "meh i want to work at a pe or some kind of hedge fund or something" vs. I knew exactly what I wanted.
also, i'm in a pretty good group...I think a lot of the people who are struggling are in shittier groups. |

edit: that said, when the hours are really intense in the winter and it's nasty outside and getting dark at 4:30, you get to a breaking point. fortunately, i snapped back. my worst span was a couple weeks where I was there until about 2 every night, then the project calmed down and immediately the next day, I had something that had me at the office until 430 am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. then I had an easy week and got put on another project that was 2-4am every night for about a month. then it became summer and interns showed up and life become easy and blah blah blah happily ever after. |
