Generally, the only thing that is really different from a suburban home is that you're going to have to get LP delivered & get the septic tank pumped once every 3 years.
There's variations though. Backwoods areas tend have more power outages so you may want a backup generator, so you'd have to maintain that. Some places are off the grid, which is way more tolerable these days with modern solar panels & lithium batteries.
Many will do a fair amount of woodburning because wood is cheaper than LP, so you'll have to clean the chimney every year to avoid a chimney fire.
Some places you can't put a septic or mound system in, so your only option is a holding tank. Those are undesirable because you have to get them pumped way more often than you would a septic. |
