My rationale is that while Austin has lower taxes, its not all that much cheaper. the summers last 5 months and are hellishly hot - you cant really do much. im guessing youd want to take some serious vacations or leave for at least a few months. then you need a car. then property taxes etc. just dont fall for the "luxury" trap in NYC and the cost comparison wont be too different.

id probably live in dallas or houston before austin. austin is kinda like if the proud boys and antifa decided to have a baby and make it a city. the homeless problem in austin is real. you have a lot of the downsides of coastal cities without many of the positive factors.
