For a very, very long time, I was plagued by an addiction to a pure and potent cocktail of performance enhancing drugs that our firm would dole out to incoming associates as a means of obtaining the maximum edge in all battlespaces against rival firms in legal contests. They *told* us that the cocktail--we called it GROCK--was the essence of our success; that without it, we would falter and ultimately fail at the altar of the law. Then, one day, in a moment of Cleisthenian insight, I threw my morning vial against the windowed wall of my high tower office and screamed "no more." Within 18 hours I could see the sunrise again through clear eyes. Within a week, I was performing at a greater aptitude than in any record of performance for anyone within my cohort, even the infamous Damien Rex. In a month, I was assigned first lead of a litigation lance, the youngest person at the firm to achieve the honor.
The point is what's holding you back isn't your access to substances or lack thereof, it's the mental crutch that you think you need them to achieve your higher self.
