Every time I use it, the email ends up cleaner but flatter. My voice is gone. The subtext disappears. Anything that requires judgment gets replaced by something overly polite, explanatory, and hollow.
The final result isn't shitty, it just doesn't sound like a real person. More like an instruction manual for not offending anyone (<--- this was written by AI.)
What bugs the shit out of me is that the more nuanced the situation is--conflict, money, family, power dynamics--the worse the output gets. Those are exactly the cases where tone matters most, and where AI seems least capable of getting it right.
So I'm curious:
Are people actually sending these emails as-is?
Or are they just using AI as a rough draft and rewriting most of it?
Or does this only feel bad if you already know how to write?
Interested in how others are using it, if at all.
