He is the one that is so unique that his original schtick could work today

Off the top of my head I would take Rakim, Guru, Special Ed, Kool Moe Dee, and KRS-ONE over Busta Rhymes. I will grant you BR was one of the last really good MCs before gangsta rap and then Puff Daddy killed hip hop.

Not arguing who was better back then. I’m talking about who would be most relevant in today’s migos style vocoder rap. Busta rhymes would still be fun.

Guru or Special Ed today?KRS one? Naw

We’re wildly overdue for a retro/throwback artist who just imitates the Chuck D/KRS One preacher at the pulpit style and who is a 6’2” 235 lb dude who doesn’t look like a skinny, faggy little millennial/Gen Z bitch. J Cole already proved the concept by shamelessly ripping off Eminem and everyone was all about it. But especially the more syntax-interesting versions of Chuck D on Takes a Nation and Fear of a Black Planet is like the hip hop vocals version of the Beatles ie timeless and deeply foundational. It’s just sitting there waiting for someone to run an Oasis play.

The greats will rise to the top in any era. This is like asking if Ares could still wage war in the year +18259 A.E. The answer is always yes.
